List of Significant CEHA Historical Dates

• September 6, 1947 marked the inception of the organization, at that time called the Rocky Mountain Section of the National Association of Sanitarians. Robert R. Wingo was the organization’s first President and presided over the inaugural meeting on this date.
• 1950-1951 – Milton M. Miller was CEHA’s fourth President. Click Miller’s Biography to read more about Milton Miller and to see his picture.
• 1952 – The organization’s name was changed from the Rocky Mountain Section of the National Association of Sanitarians to the Colorado Association of Sanitarians.
• 1954 or 1955 – Most evidence points to 1955 as being our very first Annual Educational Conference (at that time called theEnvironmental Health Training Institute) and was held at the University of Denver. Milton M. Miller was the first Annual Educational Conference Chairperson.
• 1957 – Milton M. Miller was awarded the Walter S. Mangold Award, NEHA’s highest honor.
• 1959 – The organization awarded the first Milton M. Miller Award to Mr. Sherman Warburton of Tri-County Health Department.
• 1968 – The organization incorporated with the State of Colorado as a non-profit 501(c)(3).
• 1970 – The organization’s name was changed from the Colorado Association of Sanitarians to the Colorado Environmental Health Association.
• 1972 – The Colorado Environmental Health Association celebrated its 25th Anniversary during the 18th AEC (at that time still called the Annual EH Institute) on September 28-29th at the Holiday Inn in Vail, CO.
• 1986 – The CEHA CSU Scholarship Endowment was created by a $5,000 gift to the Colorado State University Foundation.
• 1989 – The membership approved the new logo (which is the logo still in use today) at the 35th Annual Educational Conference in Glenwood Springs.
• 1997 - The Tom Douville Scholarship was created to honor the late Tom Douville. Mr. Douville was CEHA’s 41st President.
• 2002 – CEHA’s website was launched (www.cehaweb.com).
• 2005 – CEHA celebrated its 50th Annual Educational Conference in Estes Park, CO.
• 2007 - CEHA celebrate it's 60th birthday and on April 21, 2007 the NEHA BOD approved the following resolution:

  Be it Resolved , that the National Environmental Health Association does hereby recognize the outstanding achievements of the Colorado Environmental Health Association and congratulates the Colorado Environmental Health Association on the occasion of its 60th Year of service to our profession.
