CEHA - Pre-conference Workshop
Title of Workshop: Change Management - how to change when change is hard
Presenter: Heather Weir
When: Tuesday Sept 19, 2017
Time: 1:00 - 5:00pm
Where: DoubleTree hotel in Colorado Springs
Background/Purpose of Workshop: The concept that ‘change is a process’ is well documented in change management and not a surprise to most people. Despite this though, very few organizations excel at effectively leading change and most people have experienced changes within organizations that haven’t produced adequate results and left people frustrated and resistant. Change management is all about the ‘people side of change’ that helps compliment almost any efforts whether it be improvement projects or strategic planning efforts.
Like other organizations, in public health and environmental programs, we are faced with a fast rate of change and need to harness tools and techniques that will allow us to excel and thrive in the ever-changing landscape. This session will focus on the data and research that validates why we need to care about the people side of change (change management) and give participants a chance to assess real-life examples to learn more about change management from an individual perspective and also through the lens of a leader trying to help create change.
The workshop will include hands-on activities that will allow participants to assess individually how they deal with change and review initiatives they are working on (or have worked on in the past). They will use the assessment information and learn how to best apply change management practices to help lead others through change. In addition to learning about change management, participants will also learn a basic set of process improvement tools that can easily be used on projects to help improve the rates of success. Participants will be encouraged to share experiences as a means to promote peer learning within the workshop and will be provided with a set of resources and tools to take home.
